While music fans continue to buy physical copies of their favorite releases, those CDs and vinyl LPs are often ripped into digital MP3s for convenience’s sake. Amazon recently launched a new service called AutoRip, which offered CD purchasers of participating titles a free high-quality 256 Kbps digital version of the music added to their personal cloud.

This week, expert vinyl collector Mighty John Marshall of moneymusic.com went on our sister station, Los Angeles’ K-EARTH, to count down the twelve most valuable Christmas vinyl records.
Earlier this week (November 13) Beatles fans in New York and Los Angeles were treated to mobile Beatle “pop-up shops.” The “shops” were customized double decker buses, which made several stops. The buses served to promote the release of the Beatles’ catalog on 180-gram vinyl LPs. The stores sold the LPs collectively as a box set, as well as individually; Beatles CDs and other merchandise was also on sale. In each city, a unique commemorative shirt from the event was sold (and sold quickly to eager Beatles collectors).
This Friday, R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck will release his first solo album, following the group’s disbanding in 2011. However, only 2,000 lucky fans will be able to get their hands on the limited-edition, vinyl-only release.
For the last three years, Abbey Road has been the top-selling vinyl album, so clearly there’s still an audience interested in buying Beatles records in their original format. Or at least that’s the thought behind a new 16-LP box set comprised of every Beatles album, the “Magical Mystery Tour” soundtrack and “Past Masters” rarities collections.

A copy of The Beatles’ first album released in the United States, “Introducing… The Beatles,” has been sold for $15,000 in an eBay auction.
