This Week In History: Billy Joel, Elvis & Priscilla, Joe Dolce, Frank Sinatra, and Britney Spears

Hey Guys, it’s Joe Causi back at you again with another ‘Week in History.’ This week it’s all about a no-name piano player who would get his first break; One of the biggest marriage breakups of the ’70s; one cool ‘One Hit Wonder’ of the ’80s; The Chairmen of the Board goes out in style; and Britney becomes a baldie!

The ’60s

You have to start somewhere and it was this week in 1964, a local Long island band The Echoes would recruit a new, young unknown piano player to the band.

That piano player would be Billy Joel!

The ’70s

It would be this week in 1972, and after nearly five years of marriage, Priscilla Presley moved out of the King of Rock & Roll’s California home and into a two bedroom apartment near the Pacific Ocean.

Their divorce would be finalized on October 9, 1973, with Priscilla being awarded an outright cash payment of $725,000 as well as spousal support, child support, 5% of Elvis’ new publishing companies and half the income from the sale of their Beverly Hills home.

The ’80s

And it’s back to ’80s we go with one of the biggest One-Hit-Wonders of 1981 from Ohio’s own Joe Dolce who reached number 1 in over 15 countries and selling over 15 million copies worldwide with ‘Shaddap You Face.’

Now that’s a one hit wonder!!!!!

The ’90s

It was this week in 1995 at a private party for 1,200 select guests on the closing night of the Frank Sinatra Desert Classic golf tournament, ‘The Chairman of the Board’ Frank Sinatra would sing before a live audience for the very last time.

His closing song was ‘The Best is Yet to Come’.

The 2000’s

Off we go this week to 2007 when a hair salon where pop star Britney Spears would decide to shave her head would set up a website to auction her hair for more than $1 million.

Just one question… Why?!?!?!?!?!?
