Billy Joel To Open New Nassau Coliseum

Long Island native Billy Joel gave Nassau Coliseum a fond farewell when he packed the venue to capacity for its final show on August 4, 2015. Joel will also be part of its grand return, performing the new Coliseum’s first show after undergoing extensive renovations on April 5, 2017.

Joel currently plays monthly shows at Madison Square Garden, setting performance and attendance records along the way. Joel also boasts some impressive numbers at Nassau Coliseum: he’s already performed there a total of 32 times (the April 5th performance will be his 33rd) and sold out nine shows at the venue in 1998, setting the Coliseum’s record for sellouts in a single year. A banner has and will continue to hang in the Coliseum’s rafters to celebrate the achievement.

“Billy Joel is an international icon and a New York treasure, and we are thrilled to welcome him back to the Nassau Coliseum to showcase the very best of Long Island,” Governor Andrew M. Cuomo said in a statement. “These renovations have taken this premier venue to new heights, and I know it will continue to serve as one of New York’s top entertainment destinations and a local economic engine for many years to come.”

“There’s no better performer suited to reopen the transformed Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum than Long Island’s own, Billy Joel,” said Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano. “Billy serves as an exciting reminder of entertainment our residents will enjoy at the Coliseum for generations to come.”

According to CEO of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment Brett Yormark, the Coliseum is entering the final stages of construction, including an exterior façade, and will be ready for Joel’s concert on April 5th.

Tickets for the show go on sale Friday, October 14th at 10AM.
