Sharon Jones was slated to perform at the White House’s “South by South Lawn” event with her band, the Dap Kings, tonight. She’s announced the performance will go on without her as she battles pneumonia at home in Georgia.
“Unfortunately I won’t be able to perform at the White House tomorrow,” Jones wrote in a Facebook post. “I’m home in Augusta recovering from pneumonia and am too sick to travel. The Dap-Kings are still going to perform and luckily Binky Griptite and Saun & Starr will join them to cover for me.”
South by South Lawn will feature the Lumineers, Gallant, DJ Beverly Bond and Black Alley, as well as Leonardo DiCaprio, who will present his documentary Before the Flood. He, President Obama and climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe will discuss climate change at the White House event.
