This Week In History: Elvis, The Boss, ‘Afternoon Delight’, The Beckhams and Michael Jackson

Hey gang, it’s Joe Causi back at you again with another week in music history!

This week we go back in the day with ‘The King’, Elvis Presley; Starland Vocal Band start a two week run at No.1; ‘The Boss’ has a hit with his patriotism; David Beckham marries Posh Spice; and finally, we said farewell to the ‘King of Pop’, Michael Jackson!

Here we go!


The ’60s

Lets head back in the day where it would be this week in 1968, The King of Rock and Roll – Elvis Presley would donate a Rolls Royce to a Hollywood women’s charity, which raised $35,000.

Can you imagine how much would be made if they did that today????

The ’70s

 

It happened this week in 1976, ‘one hit wonders’ Starland Vocal Band started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Afternoon Delight’.

C’mon admit deep down inside you love that song thanks to the movie “Anchorman”.

The ’80s

 

It was this week in 1984, “The Boss” – Bruce Springsteen went to number 1 on the US album chart with ‘Born In The USA’.

The album would go on to spend an amazing total of 139 weeks on the US charts!

The ’90s

 

And its back to 1999, when everybody’s favorite Spice Girl, Victoria ‘Posh Spice’ Adams, married footballer David Beckham during a ceremony in Ireland.

The couple had signed a deal worth $1 million for OK magazine to have the exclusive picture rights.

I paid for my wedding pics … how about you?

The 2000’s

 

It was this week in 2009, Michael Jackson‘s family and fans said farewell to the pop superstar at an emotional memorial service at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
