Lady Gaga to Play Cilla Black in Dionne Warwick Film

By Robyn Collins

A new Dionne Warwick biopic will star Lady Gaga in the role of Warwick nemesis, Cilla Black. The film will be based on Warwick’s 2010 book My Life as I See It: An Autobiography.

When asked why Black was her enemy, Warwick told a reporter that it was “because she stole my music.” Black recorded a version of “Anyone Who Had a Heart” that eclipsed sales of Warwick’s version.

Former Destiny’s Child singer LeToya Luckett will play Warwick, and Danny Glover will play her father. Oscar winner Olympia Dukakis will appear in the film as Marlene Dietrich, who mentored Warwick and went by the nickname “Momma.”

Regarding Luckett’s casting, Dionne Warwick said: “She is perfect and she has exactly the right look. She will bring out what is needed for this part.” Luckett was an original member of Destiny’s Child, singing on the band’s first two albums, but left in 1999.

Warwick is one of the most successful singers of all time, best known for hits such as “I Say a Little Prayer” and “Do You Know the Way to San Jose?”
