Monty Python’s John Cleese “Offended Everyday” by Political Correctness

In a new video posted on Facebook by BigThink, comedian John Cleese, who we all know from the Python (Monty) British TV series and films, has spoken his mind about the current state of political correctness in the world today, and more specifically it’s affect on one’s ability to even attempt to make people laugh.

He explains that he’s been advised to stay away from universities, because in that environment, political correctness has gone from being a “good idea” to the point where “any kind of criticism of any individual or group can be labeled cruel” — a point he rejects wholeheartedly, saying “all comedy is critical.”

It’s an opinion informed by his entire career in comedy and one you should thoroughly enjoy.

“If you start saying ‘we mustn’t offend them,’ then humor is gone. Then as far as I’m concerned you’re living in 1984.”
