Paul McCartney Performs ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ Solo For First Time Ever

It’s been over 50 years since The Beatles last performed one of their biggest and earliest hits, “A Hard Day’s Night,” before a live crowd. Of course, when a band retires from performing live, your chances of seeing such a thing dwindle down to zero.

For the first time ever last night (April 13), Paul McCartney played the number solo to the delight of a surprised crowd. McCartney kicked off his One On One hits tour in Fresno, California’s Save Mart Center. You can watch some fan footage shot from the concert above and check out the night’s setlist below.

  • “A Hard Day’s Night”
  • “Save Us”
  • “Can’t Buy Me Love”
  • “Letting Go”
  • “Temporary Secretary”
  • “Let Me Roll It”
  • “I’ve Got a Feeling”
  • “My Valentine”
  • “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five”
  • “Here, There and Everywhere” (First time live since 2008)
  • “Maybe I’m Amazed”
  • “We Can Work It Out”
  • “In Spite of All the Danger” (First time live since 2005)
  • “You Won’t See Me” (U.S. debut, first time since 2004, semi-acoustic version)
  • “Love Me Do” (First time as a solo artist)
  • “And I Love Her”
  • “Blackbird”
  • “Here Today”
  • “Queenie Eye”
  • “New”
  • “The Fool on the Hill” (First time live since 2003)
  • “Lady Madonna”
  • “FourFiveSeconds”
  • “Eleanor Rigby”
  • “Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!”
  • “Something”
  • “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da”
  • “Band on the Run”
  • “Back in the U.S.S.R.”
  • “Let It Be”
  • “Live and Let Die”
  • “Hey Jude”

Encore:

  • “Yesterday”
  • “Hi, Hi, Hi”
  • “Birthday”
  • “Golden Slumbers”
  • “Carry That Weight”
  • “The End”

McCartney, known for his long sets, performed “Love Me Do” for the first time as a solo artist as well, in addition to playing many songs which have been absent from his repertoire for years. A promising sign for fans of McCartney and The Beatles, who likely have never had a chance to hear some Beatles’ classics live in concert before.
