David Bowie Tried To Punch Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon

Nearly three months after his abrupt passing, fellow artists and fans still love to recount tales of David Bowie. Count Duran Duran‘s frontman, Simon Le Bon, as one of them.

While in studio with Scott Shannon in the Morning, Le Bon recalled one memory of Bowie that shows he may have possessed some of the angst that made his portrayal as Jareth the Goblin King so great.

“Fondest memories… when he tried to punch me in a downtown restaurant,” laughs Le Bon about Bowie. The two spent quite a lot of time together in North America where Duran Duran was one of the opening acts on his 1987 Glass Spider Tour. “Well, there was a little bit of alcohol involved. It was all in terribly good fun.”

“He just wanted to live life,” adds Le Bon. “Funny enough, that song by Iggy Pop — “Lust For Life” — sums David up more than anything.”

Duran Duran’s fourteenth studio album, Paper Gods, is out now and they begin their tour with Nile Rodgers and Chic next week. They will perform at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on April 12th.
