Bernie Sanders Campaign Uses Bowie’s ‘Starman’ for Iowa Closing Speech

The Democratic Caucus in Iowa ended in a photo finish between Hillary Clinton (the winner by a hair) and Bernie Sanders—which most observers are likening to a draw. When Sanders’ closing remarks concluded, his campaign made another statement with the selection of the late David Bowie’s “Starman.”

Bowie himself objected to political partisanship in any form, but Sanders has used the song in various appearances leading up to voting night in Iowa.

Presidential politics have a long and contentious history with popular music. This week, Adele’s representation squarely dismissed use of her music by Republican hopefuls Donald Trump and Mike Huckabee.
