As the fifth season of Mike and Molly airs tonight on CBS-2, the show’s very own Billy Gardell joined Scott Shannon and the gang on this morning’s Big Show Star Phone.
Filling us in with what’s going on in tonight’s season premiere, the stand-up comedian/actor mentions Molly’s got some big news to share with Mike and the family.
“She gets a book advance to actually write a book which means, now, she actually HAS to write a book,” he told Scott. “The funny part for Mike is he’s been alone in the house for eight weeks so he’s so happy to see her [Molly].”
Despite the delays, date, and time changes of the show, Mike and Molly has become a major success. Even Gardell says he became used to the show being pushed around, considering the Monday line-ups on other networks.
However it does have its perks!
“The beautiful part about coming in a little bit late in the season is all of this stuff is winding up and so we really get a chance to shine,” he explains. “And it’s a real testament to our fans that we were able to navigate those waters and stay alive on a Monday night for five years.”
In addition to the success of the show, Billy Gardell thanked the show and the cast for helping him transition from a stand-up actor and into a better actor.
“Every year, they’ve made me a better actor just because they’re just such a really giving and wonderful group.”
To get in on all the love and wonders of Mike and Molly, the show comes back as their fifth season airs tonight at 8:30pm on CBS-2!
And for fans of Billy Gardell, check out his stand-up show at Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA on January 24th! Tickets are available through Ticketmaster!
