Darius Rucker Feels Lucky For Being Granted A Second Career

Grammy Award winning singer Darius Rucker began his career as lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish. After their break-up, he stayed on the music radar with his solo career, releasing four albums and earning 6 #1 singles.

Having sold 16 million copies of the 1994 Hootie and the Blowfish album Cracked Rear View, as well as winning the Country Music Association’s “New Artist of the Year” award in 2009, Darius has defied the norms of the music industry by transcending his career through multiple genres over time, and succeeding.

Between Hootie and the Blowfish and his solo career, Darius had almost two different careers in music, one in rock and the other in country. Having such success in two very different genres is something that most artists cannot achieve.

“I just feel so lucky, you know I mean nobody really gets to have two careers in our business and here I am right in the middle of my second one and doing so well,” Darius said. “I’m just a kid from South Carolina that got real lucky.”

For fans, old and new, Darius is bringing his solo career to the stage again this year. He is playing The Borgata in Atlantic City on July 25 and Farmingville on July 26.

On July 28 at the Hudson National Golf Club, Darius Rucker will be performing at the T.J. Martell Foundation Golf Classic for Leukemia, Cancer and AIDS Research. He will also be participating in an auction with Scott Shannon to benefit the foundation, as they auction off two spots each to join their teams for a round of golf.

“T.J. Martell is such a great foundation, they have done so much for cancer research and other things and… I’ve done a lot with them and I am always honored when I, when I can help them as much as I can,” Darius said.
