Elvis Costello Debuts New Song on ‘Late Show’ He Wrote the ‘Night Before’
Last night (June 5), Elvis Costello took the stage on the Late Show with David Letterman with a spur-of-the-moment booking, and that’s not the only thing he did last-minute.
The song Costello performed on the show was new. Very new. Like, I-wrote-this-last-night new.
The song , “The Last Year of My Youth,” is also the title and theme of his two Carnegie Hall shows. The performance was the public debut of the song and one of the few times that Costello has performed publicly with no backing band.
In a statement from Costello’s camp, he confirmed that he “wrote the song the night before his solo performance.”
