Rick Springfield Channels The Voice Of God In New Book ‘Magnificent Vibration’

For those that believe in a higher power, prayer tends to be the way one tries to communicate with God. And there’s typically not much in terms of conversation. But if you had God’s phone number, well, that would be really convenient and clear up a few problems.

That’s the premise of Rick Springfield‘s new book — Magnificent Vibration — a story that follows Horatio Cotton, aka Bobby, through a midlife crisis and the resulting conversations he has with God through a 1-800 number he found in a self-help book. Springfield’s interpretation of God, and the type of humor he/she has, is drawn directly from his experience and troubles growing up while questioning faith.

“I always figured God must have a bit of an attitude to watch us and what we’ve done with the Earth,” says the Grammy winner. “I really had a tough time growing up thinking God was this punishing person… I think it’s probably a truer view how I would imagine God would be like at this point.”

“It’s dark humor,” he adds. “It does have a heart.”

Magnificent Vibration is Springfield’s second attempt at writing outside of music; he released his autobiography — without a ghostwriter — Late, Late at Night in 2010, considered as one of the top 25 rock memoirs of all time by Rolling Stone.
