The Saturday Night Live cast changes as frequently as trends in culture. Like many of those trends, we wish we could forget certain casts employed by SNL. For a time, the late-night sketch comedy show was considered dead; long gone were the years of Belushi and Murphy.
But there were revivals that helped kick-start the fabled show, one coming during the mid 1990s with names like Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon. A major part of SNL‘s return to popularity during that time was Jim Breuer. His “Goat Boy” character is one of the show’s most popular and still one Breuer is remembered for to this day.
“I’ve been doing stand-up almost 25 years — do very well — film, blah blah blah,” says Breuer, recalling that when starting out, everyone entertainer wants that one thing that makes them memorable. “Still to this day, what I’ll hear across the street, “Hey Jim Breuer… BaAaAaAAAA!'”
“That’s my ‘Walk This Way,'” added Breuer.
Breuer also knows he’s worked his way into a sweet deal. Success in entertainment means big money for not a lot of work.
“There’s nothing like being on a set and they go like, ‘We’re going to need you in nine hours. Do you mind if we pay you and give you free food? You alright with this $75,000 for three days?'” laughs Breuer.
Jim Breuer will be at Gotham Comedy Club tonight and Saturday. Tickets are available at officialjimbreuer.com.
