It makes sense that a production about Jesus Christ would include a man many teenage girls considered godly for the majority of the 1990s. JC Chasez — a former teenage heartthrob and member of ‘N Sync — is starring in Jesus Christ Superstar and helping take the greatest story ever told to a place it’s never been before: major arenas.
“It’s exciting because instead of being in traditional theaters we’re kind of turning it up a notch and taking it into arenas across the country,” says Chasez of the 50 date tour which begins in New Orleans on June 9th and makes a stop in New York City at Madison Square Garden on August 5th.
Chasez will play the role of Pontius Pilate, the man best known as the judge at the trial of Jesus and person whom authorized his crucifixion. “This tour is packed full of talented people,” says Chasez. The cast is loaded with familiar names from top to bottom: Incubus lead singer Brandon Boyd as Judas Iscariot; former member of Destiny’s Child and Grammy winner Michelle Williams as Mary Magdalene; punk rock legend John (Johnny Rotten) Lydon, formerly of the Sex Pistols and currently part of Public Image Ltd, as King Herod; and Ben Forster as Jesus Christ.
