Carla Hall Bridges The Gap Between Cultures With Comfort Food In New Book

You see her every weekday afternoon with Mario Batali, Michael Symon, Clinton Kelly and Daphne Oz on The Chew. This morning, Top Chef fan favorite Carla Hall called up the CBS-FM Star Phone to tell Scott Shannon about her new book, Carla’s Comfort Foods: Favorite Dishes from Around the World.

“What I wanted to show was how related and linked we are when it comes to our comfort foods,” says Hall, further explaining the connection, adding, “If I take a dish with no gravy — which is like a smothered chicken dish in the South — take out the milk, and I add sour cream and paprika I could be in Hungary… or if I add tomatoes and habanero peppers, I could be in West Africa.”

“I could do the same for a lot of other dishes. We’re so connected and linked, I think it should be celebrated,” Hall continues.

Carla’s Comfort Foods: Favorite Dishes from Around the World is available now through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iTunes. You can also watch her weekdays on The Chew at 1PM on ABC.
