Checking in on the CBS-FM Star Weird Phone this morning is a man who can explain exactly what was freaking out all of Staten Island this week. Today one of the men behind the freaky Staten Island Clown, Michael Leavy, called in to explain to us what the heck is going on out in the “forgotten borough.’

“We just wanted to make sure that we can entertain as many people as possible,” says Michael Leavy. “We hope we did that.”

Scott agreed, because it gave him a chance to talk about one his favorite movie characters, “Pennywise” from Stephen King’s “It.”

“We’re a production company, Fuzz On the Lens Productions, and we were really doing this in the beginning just to entertain our friends, you know, doing this as a prank on them. Eventually, once we saw the reaction that it was getting within the small community, we were shooting something with comedian Vic DiBitetto and we ended up pranking him. He had no idea, no involvement with this actual thing and I know a lot of people thought he did,” explains Michael.

“So, we knew where he was going to be after a shoot he did with us and we figured it would reach a lot more people if, hopefully, he did something. Being a comedian in the right place, right time, he did. Sorry Vic, if you’re hearing this now. We apologize for getting you.”

The crew was a little nervous having Michael on the phone this morning. Being that he’s with a production company, there was always the chance that this could have been viral marketing campaign for “something horrible starring a girl dressed as a clown and a donkey,” according to Scott.

Leavy says the company is not promoting anything specific at the moment, this is it. They simply treated this side-project as one of their films; we were the audience, “the world was the production and the clown was the main character,” says Leavy. “We just wanted to entertain the world, and you guys!”

Mission (sort of) accomplished, Michael.
