“Back to Blue” is Gap’s new fall campaign, turning back the clock to its rich history and the company’s roots; which, from the ads, appears to be denim. But the promotion focuses on the roots of the stars featured in the campaign, notably the children of George Harrison and Billy Joel.
Dhani Harrison performs “For You Blue” from The Beatles final LP Let It Be. The song was written by his father and the B-side to “The Long and Winding Road.”
The younger Harrison, though overshadowed by the legacy of his father, is an accomplished musician himself; he found thenewno2 in 2006 and is a member of Fistful of Mercy alongside Ben Harper and Joseph Arthur. The full track can be downloaded through iTunes, with the proceeds going to George Harrison’s Material World Foundation.
Alexa Ray Joel covers her father’s “Just the Way You Are”; Joel’s first US top 10 hit in the US and first to be certified Gold. Alexa Ray Joel released and EP in 2006, Sketches, and has released several singles since.
