Sting has just been added to the long list of performers at the GRAMMYS.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, who hasn’t released a new album since 2009′s If On A Winter’s Night…, will hit the stage in a collaborative performance that will feature a pair of hitmakers from a younger generation, Bruno Mars and Rihanna. There are no details on what the trio will sing, although Mars’ music — like Sting’s when he fronted the Police — often has a reggae influence, as does Rihanna’s.
Sting has played the GRAMMYS a number of times in recent years. In 2007, The Police not only kicked off their reunion tour with a performance of “Roxanne,” but opened the night’s show. Three years earlier, Sting performed that same song with reggae singer Sean Paul. On that same night, Sting also performed The Beatles’ “I Saw Her Standing There” with Dave Matthews, country singer Vince Gill and hip-hop superstar Pharrell Williams on drums. And in 2001, Sting and Algerian singer Cheb Mami performed their hit “Desert Rose.”
The GRAMMYS air February 10 on CBS.
