After a successful U.S. and Canadian tour this past summer, which was spring-boarded by an appearance on American Idol, the Queen Extravaganza will return with a 2013 tour kicking off this January. The first stop will be in Tarrytown, NY on January 11th, and the tour run for 20 shows before its final stop in Halifax, NS. The tribute band will also hold a 20-show residency in Quebec starting August 6th. Full tour dates below.
While many legendary classic rock artists have inspired tribute bands, Queen is the first to have actively recruited and produced its own. Queen’s original guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor are both involved in the tribute, but Taylor has a more active role as the show’s producer. Queen Extravaganza was formed through YouTube submissions from a worldwide audition, with singer Marc Martel securing his spot by performing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The rest of the band includes fellow Queen Extravaganza contestant Jennifer Espinoza, bassist Francois Olivier Doyon, guitarists Brian Gresh, drummer Tyler Warren and keyboardist/musical director Brandon Ethridge.
“I got fed up with seeing Queen tribute bands,” Taylor told us earlier this year. “Some were good, some were bad, some were cheesy, some were not-cheesy. But I thought, ‘If people are playing our music, I want it done brilliantly.’”
The show runs for approximately 90 minutes and includes Queen chart-toppers “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Another One Bites the Dust,” “We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” and more.
