A man posing as Stevie Wonder‘s nephew and his accomplice have been charged with attempted extortion of the R&B superstar this week, the Los Angeles Times reports. They were sentenced to 292 days in jail after pleading no contest; they were released for time served.

As previously reported, the duo, Alpha Lorenzo Walker and girlfriend Tamara Eileen Diaz, attempted to extort Wonder for $5 million, later decreasing the demand to $500,000 after hearing Wonder was “furious.” Walker, posing as Wonder’s nephew, and Diaz claimed to have embarrassing information about Wonder and his family, which they were going to sell unless he paid up.

In a meeting at a coffee shop with Wonder’s lawyer, William Joseph Briggs II, Walker presented him with video supposedly shot at the vacant home of Wonder’s deceased mother. According to Briggs, Walker’s notion was that Wonder would be “extremely” embarrassed by the footage, which claimed to show the conditions under which she lived before her death in 2006.

Walker and Diaz, both 38, were sentenced to strict probation that includes bi-weekly mental health counseling (for Walker) and 78 Narcotics Anonymous classes (for Diaz). Both are required to keep away from Wonder, his family and his co-workers during the probation.
