Paul Ryan has reason to be shy about revealing his music taste, since the last time he did, his favorite band basically yelled at him. However, that did not stop the VP wannabe from bringing up his penchant for rock’n'roll again last night during his speech at the Republican National Convention.
While chiding GOP running mate Romney for his taste, Wisconsin Rep. Ryan name-checked a few of his own favorites along the way, perhaps looking for a way to connect with potential male voters with these macho bands. “There are the songs on [Romney's] iPod, which I’ve heard on the campaign bus and on many hotel elevators,” Ryan told the RNC crowd. “He actually urged me to play some of these songs at campaign rallies. I said, ‘I hope it’s not a deal-breaker Mitt, but my playlist starts with AC/DC, and ends with Zeppelin.’”
Based on a 2011 interview and his official Spotify playlist, Romney’s tastes skew a little older and country-leaning (with the exception of The Killers, whom Romney name-dropped and whose frontman is also Mormon). Romney previously told Peoplethat his favorites include The Eagles, The Beatles, Roy Orbison and Randy Travis.
As for Ryan, it’s hard to forget what happened after he declared his love for radical rockers Rage Against the Machine. Rage guitarist (and diehard liberal) Tom Morello took him to task in an Op-Ed for Rolling Stone, stating that Ryan “is the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decades.” Rock star endorsements are likely few and far between for Rep. Ryan.
