Few were surprised when Gene Simmons, brazen KISS leader and shameless marketer, turned his family into subjects of a reality show in 2006. Now, however, it’s time for the cameras to go: Gene Simmons Family Jewels has been canceled by A&E, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The reality series ran for seven seasons (a total of 160 episodes) and initially brought strong ratings to the cable network. Family Jewels follows the hi-jinks of the always-scheming Simmons, longtime partner (and now wife – they married on the show) Shannon Tweed and their two teenaged children, Sophie and Nick.
Both Tweed and and daughter Sophie tweeted about the show’s ending over the weekend.
We so love our supporters.Thank U 4 watching as long as you did.It was unexpected and appreciated. We will miss you & our crew.

The family released a statement, explaining that because of Simmons’ KISS commitments, they will not shop Family Jewels around to another network following A&E’s cancellation. It reads as follows: “With Kiss on tour and with my other business commitments, we have decided to draw the final curtain on our show. It has been a wonderful, life-altering experience for our family, and after seven successful seasons, we feel it’s time to move on. A big thank you to A&E for allowing us to tell our story and a big thank you to our excellent producers Leslie Greif, Adam Freeman, Adam Reed and the team at Thinkfactory Media. This is not the end of our story, it’s the beginning of a new chapter. With love — Gene, Shannon, Sophie, and Nick.”
Indeed, KISS have ramped up again. In October, they’ll release 20th album Monster, and continue their summer tour alongside Motley Crue through September.
