Disco shoes or cowboy boots? That will be a tough wardrobe decision for those attending the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville this coming July 27, as the guest lineup that night will feature none other than Bee Gees cofounder Barry Gibb.
A singer, songwriter, and producer, Gibb has been in the music industry for over 50 years, and he’s thrilled at the opportunity to perform on one of music’s most renowned programs. “I have dreamed of performing on the hallowed stage of the Opry since I was 12 years old,” he told MusicRow.com.
Barry will be joined on the Opry stage on Friday, July 27 by Darryl Worley, James Otto, Dailey & Vincent, Ricky Skaggs, and more acts to be announced.
The Bee Gees are best known for their 1970s hits that came to define the disco era, including “Staying Alive” and “Jive Talkin’.”
Previously they had success with a psychedelic-pop sound on such songs as “Holiday” and “I Started a Joke.”
The Bee Gees released their final album, This Is Where I Came In, in 2001, and the three Gibb brothers performed their last concert together a year later. Maurice Gibb died in 2003, and Robin Gibb passed away earlier this year.
Barry Gibb’s more recent solo material includes the sweetly sentimental “Daddy’s Little Girl” — a song “written for my daughter Ali for her 16th birthday,” as he describes it on his website — and “All in Your Name,” featuring Michael Jackson.
If you want to see Gibb at the Opry in person, tickets are still available.
