During this afternoon’s press conference with The Who, in which they announced a North American tour performing their Quadrophenia album, Pete Townshend was asked about his forthcoming memoir, Who I Am.
The question at hand was whether Roger Daltrey should be concerned about any of the material in the book, with the interviewer mentioning Keith Richards’ disparaging remarks about Mick Jagger’s so-called “tiny” penis in his 2010 memoir, Life. Townshend could have side-stepped all matters involving Jagger’s private parts, but being the same old mouthy bloke he’s always been, he had a bit of cheeky fun with it.
“What I remember of the size of Mick Jagger’s penis — I remember it as being huge and extremely tasty,” Townshend said. “I don’t remember anything about Roger’s… and wouldn’t dare to mention it. Let’s hope that makes the Internet!”
As for what will be included in Townshend’s long-discussed memoir, he’s not exactly sure yet. Townshend said during today’s press conference that he’s flying out to meet his editor tonight to finish the book, to be published October 8th by HarperCollins. The guitar god said that what he submitted to his publisher was “too thick,” so they’ll be whittling it down. With as many fights as Townshend and Daltrey – The Who’s surviving members – have gone through over the years, Daltrey may have something to worry about with the release of Who I Am.
The Who kick off their 37-date North American Quadrophenia tour on November 1st.
