Where were the members of Queen the moment they learned that “Bohemian Rhapsody” hit Number 1? Fans who want to know the answer will need to line up at their local DVD store on September 25th for The Great Pretender, a new documentary on the band that focuses on the life and times of their flamboyant singer, the late Freddie Mercury.
Created by the same group of people who produced the BBC documentary Queen: Days of Our Lives, the new film is produced and directed by lifelong Queen fan Rhys Thomas. He digs deep into the Mercury archive, unearthing rare archival footage that includes interviews, behind the scenes looks at video shoots and other rarely seen material. Some of that material includes footage from the making of unreleased tracks such as Mercury and Rod Stewart‘s singing, “Take Another Piece Of My Heart” and the Michael Jackson/Mercury collaboration “There Must Be More To Life Than This.”
Newly filmed contributions from fellow Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor and manager Jim Beach round out the offering.
The Great Pretender will be offered on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Video.
