While you’re preparing (or prepped, you lil’ go-getter) for the big Memorial Day Weekend, CBS-FM will be your soundtrack while we countdown the Top 500 Artists. Just what you need to keep chuggin’ along for three days of barbeques, booze (responsibly) and good times.
We asked our prestigious on air staff at CBS-FM to “trim the fat” just a bit and cut the countdown from 500 down to 5. Don’t worry, we’re not giving away the crème de la crème of the Top 500, but we are delivering to you some of our jock’s Top 5 Artists of All Time.
How would the Top 5 look if Big Jay Sorensen was in charge? Have a look and see…
#5 Michael Jackson
I don’t like what he represented, especially in his later years, but you can’t deny his genius in the recording studio … and on stage.
#4 Four Seasons
I know their sound of the ’60s can sound dated, but they were the NY area version of The Beach Boys with their distinct way of creating great melodies, harmonies and relatable lyrics from Crewe/Gaudio. Valli is a master at what he does.
#3 Three Dog Night
A much under-appreciated act is Three Dog Night. For some reason, they’ve been derided because they were a “cover band.” So? They were the best at doing that!
#2 Bee Gees
You can’t have a ’70s act without having The Bee Gees (or late ’60s for that matter.) Their melodic songs are hypnotic at times.
#1 The Beatles
The Beatles are simply far and away the most magical group or artists of the last century. Music would not be the same without them.
