The Rascals haven’t recorded music together since the early 1970s, but that hasn’t stopped any of the former members from continuing successful careers. That holds true for Felix Cavaliere, who called into CBS-FM to discuss his current music endeavours with Ron Parker.
Cavaliere recently performed at B.B. King’s in New York City and will be heading up to Connecticut on May 11 to play at the Ridgefield Playhouse. Born in Pelham, New York, Cavaliere loves to come home and put on a show for the hometown crowd, but he couldn’t imagine living somewhere other than his current residence in Tennessee.
“The music community down here is phenomenal,” says the former Rascal. “It’s probably the last bastion of songwriting, ya know. People can understand and relate to what we do here.”
Cavaliere took a trip up to Rochester, New York recently to help induct his good friend and former bandmate, Gene Cornish, into the Rochester Music Hall of Fame. The event was a very well done affair, but Cavaliere admits the best part of the trip was seeing Cornish and the joy receiving the honor put on his face.
“Gene was just over the top. He was so happy.”
Being that the former music partners are on such good terms, one can only wonder if a reunion could be in the works. The idea is pretty tempting, considering many artists who earned their chops in the ’60s, like the Beach Boys and the Rolling Stones, are celebrating anniversaries. Cavaliere believes it is something that could come to fruition.
“There are some thoughts and plans,” Cavaliere tells Parker. “Steve Van Zandt (who worked with fellow Rascasl Dino Danelli on Men Without Women with Van Zandt in 1982) has really been helping out quite a bit with a potential reunion. It’s all a question of economics. If it can be done, of course we’ll do it.”
