Andy Rooney, 1919-2011
Just one month after saying goodbye to 60 Minutes, the great Andy Rooney has died.
CBS made the announcement Friday night that he had passed here in New York at the age of 92 from complications from a recent surgery.
Rooney spent more than thirty years talking about the oddities of life for 60 Minutes and won three Emmy Awards for his unique style.
60 Minutes honored Rooney with a special tribute on last night’s episode with Morley Safer leading the segment at the close of the broadcast that included a re-play of his retirement piece from last month.
Rooney was a HUGE Giants football fan and Phil Simms remembered Andy on the CBS broadcast yesterday, recalling how Rooney would always attend games and loved to sit in the upper deck of the old Giants stadium.
