Sex, drugs, and rock & roll appears to be the hot project being tackled by premium cable channels for the upcoming pilot season. HBO is highly interested in a drama centered around a wheelin’ and dealin’ record executive fueled by cocaine in 1977 New York with names like Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger attached to the project.

Writer of the hit HBO series Boardwalk Empire, Terence Winter, would be signed on as executive producer and write the pilot. Scorsese would direct and also receive EP credit, along with Jagger. The story was initially pitched by Mick as a movie to Disney, then at Paramount, before meeting with HBO executives to discuss the project earlier this month.

This news comes on the heels of a similar project being developed by Showtime. Titled Vinyl, the rival premium cable channel’s show would “explore multiple aspects of the music business, from the perspective of record executives and rock stars to drug pushers and prostitutes,” according to Billboard.

Scorsese has worked quite a bit with HBO, notably as director of Boardwalk Empire and with the release of his documentary on the Quiet Beatle, George Harrison: Living in the Material World.
