One of the great minds of our time, ex-Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs has died at the age of 56.
Apple made the announcement this evening that the mastermind behind the iPhone, iPod, iPad, iMac and iTunes died in his California home.
Apple’s website immediately had a full-page photo of Jobs that said, “Steve Jobs 1955-2011.”
Jobs co-founded Apple in 1976 at the age of 21 along with his friend Steve Wozniak and immediately brought us the Apple II.
His health had been a major issue over the past half decade. He beat pancreatic cancer in 2004 and in 2009 was forced to get a liver transplant. Jobs stepped down as Apple’s top man with an announcement on August 24th and in just over a week from now, on October 14th, Apple was to dub “Steve Jobs Day” in his honor and for the release of the iPhone 4S.
