James Taylor sang his 1971 classic “You Can Close Your Eyes” during yesterday’s ceremonies. The duality of the song’s message was very fitting for the day, displaying both the sadness and hope felt by the crowd in attendance.
Sporting a 9-11 Memorial baseball hat, Paul Simon sang “The Sound of Silence” from the [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Simon & Garfunkel[/lastfm] catalog, which had a profound effect on the crowd.
Thousands were on hand during the ceremony, including President Barack Obama, former President George W. Bush, Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Rudy Giuliani, and many others. The performances definitely had an effect on the crowd, many of whom lost family, friends, or coworkers during the tragic events that took place ten years ago.
