The documentary will air as a two-part special on October 5th and 6th, with insights from titans of the music industry and friends alike, including [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Eric Clapton[/lastfm], Terry Gilliam, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Eric Idle[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]George Martin[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Paul McCartney[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Yoko Ono[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Tom Petty[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Phil Spector[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Ringo Starr[/lastfm], and Jackie Stewart, who will all lend an intimate look into Harrison’s life.

“From rock’n’roll icon to moviemaker, to spiritual seeker and humanitarian, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]George Harrison[/lastfm] was a true renaissance man,” HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo said in a statement on Wednesday. “This amazing film will illuminate every aspect of Harrison’s remarkable, multifaceted life.”

The documentary utilizes never-before-seen home videos and photographs, giving fans a look into Harrison’s life through his own words. Scorsese was aided by Olivia Harrison, widow to the late musician, who helped produce the documentary. She also praised the Academy Award winning director for his “intuition towards George” that helped him sense “what George was about: his music, his strong beliefs, his art, his place in the Beatles’ story and his extraordinary life afterwards.”

“George was making spiritually awake music,” Scorsese said. “We all heard and felt it – and I think that was the reason he came to occupy a very special place in our lives.”
