Frankie Valli was born today in Newark, New Jersey as Francis Castelluccio. The exact year of his birth has been variously reported between 1931 and 1937.
As [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Frankie Valli [/lastfm] he used his distinctive falsetto to lead [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]The Four Seasons[/lastfm] all the way to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Walk Like a Man” all hit number-one, as did 1964′s “Rag Doll,” despite the British Invasion.
The group rebounded in the mid-’70s with “Who Loves You” and “December 1963 (Oh What a Night),” while Frankie had solo hits with “My Eyes Adored You,” “Swearin’ to God” and “Grease.”
To celebrate Frankie Valli today, in my portion of Turntable Tuesday, I’m spinning records that were Number One in various years on his birthday! Tune in each hour from 10 AM – 3 PM to hear if he sings on any of them!
