#2 “Pink Houses” by John Mellencamp, live concert for New York City after 9/11
What happened to “Proud To Be an American” by Lee Greenwood? That was everywhere after 9/11.
Born in the USA is more a protest song than a patriotic song. It is about not liking the fact that we were in Vietnam. Also, This Land is Your Land isn’t a patriotic song either. It too is a protest song. It was about how the USA is supposed to be about freedom for everyone and the idea that “all men are created equal,” but that inequality was rampant. The final verses speak of ordinary people having to stand on bread lines while rich people were granted every luxury.
